Text Box: The Consultation: Normally at least the first consultation will be in person. The aim of the homoeopathic consultation is to match your own ‘individual’ and ‘peculiar’ symptoms with a remedy. You will be encouraged to share these symptoms with your homoeopath. Even seemingly irrelevant symptoms have significance. I work in a holistic way, so your moods, feelings, relationships, dreams, aims and interests in life are as significant as your physical discomforts, family medical history and food cravings. All this information helps me to select the remedy most suited to you. The first interview will probably last 1½ to 2 hours, shorter for children.
Follow-ups: I normally expect my clients to attend at least one follow-up consultation about 4 to 6 weeks after their first remedy. This is so I can assess your progress, answer any questions you may have and consider if you need more of the remedy you were given or should have another remedy. Follow-up appointments are shorter than the initial one.
The remedy you receive usually consists of one or more pillules, tablets, or drops. Do not be surprised if you are given only one dose. The aim is to stimulate your own healing powers just enough to bring you into a healthier state. Occasionally, remedies may be given more frequently. You will be asked to return for a ½ hr. follow-up appointment about 4-6 weeks after your remedy has been taken. If you have concerns, worries, or questions before this, please feel free to call me.
Once you are given a remedy, you may experience an ‘aggravation’, i.e., a temporary strengthening of your symptoms, or a return of
‘old’ symptoms. These events are usually short lived, and show that the remedy is working. At the same time you should notice a general improvement, e.g., you may sleep better, or simply feel better in yourself.
Remedies can be antidoted (i.e. made ineffective) by some substances, such as coffee, menthol, camphor, peppermint, x-rays or dental treatment. It is best to avoid these after taking a remedy and inform me if you are unable to do so. Some individuals are more sensitive to antidoting influences than others.
How long you stay in homoeopathic treatment will depend on your own “individual” case. Some people may need little and infrequent treatment, others may need treatment over a longer term. If you have had a condition that has been building up for many years, you should not expect it to clear up over night – healing takes time.
Please bring to your first consultation:
A list (including dosages) of any medicines you are taking, including prescription drugs, ‘The Pill’, herbs and supplements.
Knowledge of your, and your family’s, medical history, including your pregnancy, birth, traumas and vaccinations.
Conventional medicine: As a registered nurse, I am aware that conventional medicine has many strengths, for example in diagnosis and life-saving procedures in
critical illness. Therefore you will be encouraged to remain in contact with your conventional doctor, as necessary, during homoeopathic treatment. You will not be required to stop taking prescribed drugs but homoeopathic treatment may reduce your dependency on them.
Storing remedies: any remedies that you are given, if not taken straight away, should be stored away from light and strong smells. They should not be subjected to extremes of temperature. Keep them in the container provided and do not handle them directly unless you are taking a dose yourself.
Confidentiality: All information you give in consultation is treated as confidential. Your file will be stored in a locked cabinet.
Flower essences: Raewyn carries a number of locally-produced flower essences, which she prescribes when appropriate. These essences are also available for sale.
